Production diary

Production diary:
I wanted to show how i edited some of the shots in my music video to show the progress of what I have learnt through using premier pro, obviously the affect of the 'paint bucket' put the neon red colour into anything that is a similar colour to red and therefore shows it going a bit crazy this was out there to show the audience that the artist has gone crazy and the fact it is red has the connotation of love and blood that is why i wanted to use it. I also showed the reverse shots that i edited i found out how to do this my youtube, i asked how to do it and there are loads of clips that show how to do it, i wanted to use this to show that everything is distorted and messed up in her life right now, i now know how to edit a lot more things now especially compared to the start of the year when we did the preliminary task.

Behind scene of how I made my eye dilate



For this affect I simply just shone a light on my eye and video it so i got it all and then just cut to the bit I wanted to use in my video.

Techniques 2

This effect is reversing the shot so it looks like it is going backwards in time, we used this to show how the singer is disillusional at this Time due to her going through a emotionally abusive relationship, we think it work well with all the other concept shots because they all link together in some way all showing that she is going insane. The shot with the puddle and my foot is shown below,







This is how you do it on adobe premier, you right click the shot you would like to speed up or reverse the speed and click on the speed option then you put the speed you would like or keep it the same and click reverse speed and its as simple as that. 




Techniques

This is one of the shots we took when down london, we took it and cut it on adobe premier pro and then added the 'paint bucket' on video affects. We did this because we felt that the concept shot was boring if we just sped it up and left it how it was we liked the look of how the red colour changed as the train moved and went with the beat of the song, almost like a heart
beat to the song.

Our changes

10/12/14
This week we published our first draft of our music video, we also had to show all the changes that we have done for example Katie is no longer the artist I am so I'm going to be doing the performance and narrative of the music video, we just found that i was less shy in front of the camera. We also have been editing all the shots we have so far and posted our first draft, it does have a lot of breaks in it because we dont have all the shots yet due to the delay but we are gonna be filming much more and finishing all the editing. We have a lot more ideas now for the music video to use and a decision for what the look of the artist will be, we have had to change the artists therefore the whole idea for the music video has to change as now there will only be me in the music video singing now.

I felt we needed to focus on our star image this week, we chose the name 'Piper Young' and that she is 21 from newyork and her personality traits, we started a facebook page and a twitter page to start it all off, after all this we were ready to film. we planned to go to katies to get all her shots done that day and do mine another time.

Secrete message in BANKS- Change

we needed to see this because it makes us have a better understanding of the song for the music video.

I really think the editing in this music video is so good not only is it the same genre as our but this is a really enjoyable music video,it has concept, performance and narrative moments in it which is exactly what i want to go for when filming and editing, i like the slow motion shots of the water splashing i want that in my music video. There is also more to this, he is abusing her domestically and this is what our song is about, we want to show that as much as she shows that in this music video.

This week I focused on just research for inspiration and what is similar to what i want to do and what i like, i started by looking at BANKS genre which is alternative pop and then i just copied that title and typed it in Google i found that Lana Del Ray is similar to BANKS and so is Taylor Swift. therefore i watched their music videos and their look and i fell more for lane del ray i feel she is less mainstream and goes with the song more than Taylor swift so hugely Lana is my biggest inspiration. I also thought i really loved We found love in a hopeless place by Rihanna and liked the video to that because it has the same meaning of her song to Banks' song and I liked that the video made her look like she was going crazy in the relationship and that's what I want to achieve.

Questions on our star image



Although they said that they prefer piper as one name on its own, I asked more people and found that the name 'Piper' needed a last name and we found that Piper Young is our artists name.This helped a lot for us to find out which name to use and the age.

This week in media i decided to put together questions on which the audience decided for our star image, i thought it would be good to film a few questions so that it is more interactive than just people reading it off the screen, I also needed to look for what the makeup would be like for the artist and for the actress, this is important because we neede to show a clear contrast between the singer and the distroted woman going through this.

My look in the music video



We think its best for me to have this natural looking look so that it shows that i'm not in a right state to wear make-up and make an effort for him for many reasons. This will contrast the actress (me) being in a mess and the artist (katie) who will be dressed up to show her being prestige and her having a straight mind.

I wanted this look because it looks messy and effortless and I wanted this to be my look like I'm stuck in a rut and it relates to my mood, it being very dark and moody.

This week i focused on what to include in the music video, the  effects that i want to include, i put on my blog some videos to show how they are used in music videos, for example reverse editing all the way through on coldplay song also the home video from Beyonce's and Jay Z's msuic video i think is so creative and affective i though it would be good to show the contrast of my relationship with the boyfriend to show the good times and now the bad times we are having which is turning into a abusive relationship.

Reverse editing



I wanted to use this editing technique of reversing me and my boyfriend in the music video walking down the street and getting revered into the house where we pursue an argument this is so it can show how easy it is to go back and change things, this fits in with the lyrics and even the song title 'Change'.

Time lapse



I'd like to use time lapse in my music video because i think it would make a good effect on the music video, in the music video id like i to be at the train station with the actress just standing still this will give the affect of not moving this will be used when she is singing about disintergrating.

This week i did the risk assessment of our schedule of filming, i spoke abotu what could go wrong anf what to do to prevent any accidents, i have to finish it after all the filming to say did anything go wrong but other than that i highlighted all the factors of what when and why it could go wrong especially going around filming in london. I also elaborated on the mood board for ideas on our music video to show some of the affects i wanted to include in it and the outfits make up and hairstyle for both me and katie. this helped me get more ideas when researching all of these things along with the risk assesssment, i reasearched things and it made me think of some thing si may of missed out.

This week I aimed to finish a story board/ mood board of what I will look like and what I shall wear i used a program called realtime this was good because it allowed me to put post it notes all over my photos to explain why i wanted to use that. When I finished that I focused on lyric analysis i just wrote all over the print out version and took a photo of it and uploaded it, this wasnt particularly a challenge but i thought i have been using different programmes that i could just keep this simple.

This week i finished my audience questionnaire on things like what genre should we do, what target audience to have etc. I also presented my music pitch to everyone using Emaze. Then i went on to research and analyse artist's websites i found this easy to just print screen the important bits on the website copy them on the world document and talk about them like that, this was useful to see the difference between gender, genre and how established they are.

This week I started on research into digipaks to prepare myself for when i need to come up with one for my artist, i made an emaze slideshow to show all the different types of digipaks and what one i liked the most for what reason. I then went on to making our own digipak, we used Katie to do this copying Rihannas Digipak 'talk that talk' i thought that went easy just because it didnt tak ethat long to take the pictures and to edit them we split it up i do two and katie did two, she found it hard to get a background of zebra print bed so she just got a wallpaper look and cut herself on to that. We also found out what our actual song choice is for our final piece of our music video which was exciting because we found it quite easy and got a reply form the man who remixed our song straight away he was even keen on watching our final product.

Website analysis

Depending on how big the artist is would normally represent how good the website would be, for example; Beyonce's Blog has as her front page
pictures of her and Jay-z on the tour she is on now. This covers the front page in varies of
different size pictures all in black and white, when you hover over the picture with your mouse it gives you an option it click on the tour she is on in France. It also has a drop list which you can see is black with white writing, you are able to search, or are given options such as; Music, Tour, #Beygood, Fragrance, Shop. At the bottom of the drop list it has Join, follow, terms and privacy. This is in small because its not as important, you notice that the Follow is in small because she doesn't need to be anymore established than she already is. All that is important is to promote.



However it does also depend on the genre that artist/ artists is, McBusted's website; is very colorful and has a video of them performing live on stage almost like when people look on the website they know who they are basically saying just in-case you don't know who McBusted are there you go. It also gives you an option to sign up for news about McBusted, which i cant imagine other than the fan girls that majority of people wouldn't sign up for it. This website also gives you an option to buy tour tickets the same as beyonce's. This layout is a bit childish with the annoying background and big funky writing that tries to make a little joke that isn't funny. I think this website suits their genre of music and
the fans it will apply to.













SHIFT K3Y is a new up and coming DJ who isn't well established yet considering he is giving free downloads to his song although it is played on the chart shows. It gives option to listen to his other remixes and to watch his released song. It also shows his tour and where he will be performing, Which was shocking to me because it was such small insignificant places. The link lets you buy the tickets, it doesn't show the artist so I don't feel that its as affective.

Our final song choice

We chose this one finally because it had more of a upbeat faster pace to it, this would make it easier for us to show and change different paces in our music video instead of a slow pace song that could be difficult to show. I also really just like this remix because the others when listening just didn't go as well as this one did, its a hard song to remix because it literally stays the same throughout.

Our digipak

This is our Digipak of rihanna's digipak but a remake of it, I think it went well for the positioning of the photos and it did all go to plan we had difficulty of the backgrounds and how to take them due to not having the right backgrounds but we decided just to photoshop katie on the nearest backgrounds we could find that fitted. I think it looks good and it looks as close as we could possibly get to the actual digipak, we couldn't get the outfits she was wearing because Katie didn't have the right clothing for it but she did curl her hair to try and match Rihannas look. We ended up taking them on a mattress in our school gym because they had bland easy backgrounds to be able to cut out we also had difficulty with cutting her hair out on the fireworks programme we used because it was so curly she had hair everywhere but we managed to do it.

12/09/14
This week I practised my lip syncing to you and I - One Direction this was fun to do but more importantly it was useful to understand what you have to do to lip sync, I found it was actually hard to do and i possibly got way too into it. I then went on to research websites and analyse the difference between the different genre websites, i did pop rock, RnB and dance they varied between well know to Beyonce to the less well known but up and coming artist, it varied massively and was so definite the line between them three. I then went on to researching headlines to do with celebrities just showing how they are represented and what type of perception it may be (positive or negative) i used prezzi for this.
